šŸ¤ 2024-12: Reflections from snowy Lahemaa // New live video

'Kallimale' with Estonian Voices, festival highlights from Regensburg to Chiasso to Cannes, and a glimpse of new songs on the horizon.

Dear friends and fellow music lovers,

It feels surreal to be writing to you again, after a long time, as I watch winter arrive in Estonia - forest paths covered in frost and the sea turning to ice near the shore. šŸ¤ā„ļø

I’m sending you my love from the sauna that’s served as the little hideaway/studio for the previous and upcoming album.

This year has brought unexpected waves of change, and I'm grateful to share them with you.

…

Concerts this year have all been deeply moving. Sparks & Visions in Regensburg was covered in Jazzwise (a pleasure to share the stage with Alfa Mist), and the soul-stirring night in Cannes in Nouvelle Vague, and the wonderful Chiasso concert in La Regione (where we could later sneak in to hear Antonio SƔnchez, still inspired and blown away).

At Munich’s Bergson Kunstkraftwerk, I was happy to witness one of those rare moments where time stops and an entire room breathes together – I’ll soon share a concert video (and Deutschlandfunk Kultur broadcast this earlier this year).

…

I'm also especially excited and proud about this:

Estonian Voices released our album 'Kallimale' this year - thirteen short love stories turned into song. I wrote twelve songs on the album. The pieces blend singer-songwriter melodies and folk roots (Estonian, maybe even African) into something intimate and completely new. Still lucky to be the artistic director and vocalist in my favourite a cappella group :)

I was deeply touched when Anders Edenroth from The Real Group had such kind words for it. And thanks to Accent’s Andrew Kesler's delicate mixing work, we captured the magic of six voices finding their shared breath. It's meant to be a gentle hug for the listener - if you're curious, it's out there waiting to be discovered (Spotify, Apple Music).

The Birgitta Festival gave us the opportunity to experiment with a string orchestra, and it was beautiful to see my songs come together with the VHK orchestra, my dear Estonian Voices, and a fabulous band with many of my favorite and oldest colleagues.

Here’s a video exclusively for you from that concert, too (with a yet unreleased song, ā€˜Please Come Home’).

For those who've been asking about new material - yes, something is growing. The seeds were planted a while ago, and the songs have been taking shape throughout concerts, with the album coming in 2025. And while it's too early to say more, I can tell you it feels like coming home and setting sail at the same time.

…

I'm endlessly grateful for your trust in bringing me to your venues and festivals, for believing in this voice from a small Estonian fishing village. Every stage can become a place where we can all remember what it means to feel deeply.

I'd love to hear what's been happening in your world - what makes you smile these days, what keeps your heart beating faster? Write to me. Your letters mean more than you know.

Until our paths cross again,

Kadri

P.S. Sometimes the best ideas come after some sauna heat. Let me know if you need your share! ;)
